Call for six (6) volunteer teachers at Universal Humanitarian Aid Initiative (UHAI)


Universal Humanitarian Aid Initiative (UHAI) is a humanitarian and developmental non-governmental organization that insists the world can be changed positively so that everyone can live a normal life. UHAI works in Nigeria for profound change tackling the root cause of poverty, empowering people to have a brighter future, and creating an enabling environment for communities to exercise their capacities.  UHAI operates across Northeast Nigeria and has extensive experience in managing and monitoring emergency relief and rehabilitation actions both with local partners and directly. Universal Humanitarian Aids Initiatives has been working in Nigeria since 2017 implementing humanitarian and Developmental interventions across the Northeast even before its registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on 5th February 2023. UHAI is currently operating within 3 states in the country, across four thematic areas: Humanitarian and Sustainable Livelihood, Education in Emergencies, WASH, and Protection with gender and inclusion principles cutting across all thematic areas.

The organization is seeking for qualified hands to handle the vacant position.

Job Title: Volunteer teachers

Employee Status: Fixed Term
Report to: Education Officer

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a scheme of work for each topic
  • Support and guide the pupils to comprehend the subject study
  • Keep records of pupil’s performance
  • Give the pupils classwork and other exercises that will guide them to understand the subject.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging and effective lessons to students in the implementation location.
  • Create and implement lesson plans aligned with Accelerated Basic Education Programme (ABEP) educational standards and learning objectives.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and active learning.
  • Provide individualized support and tutoring to students who require additional assistance.
  • Assess student progress through various evaluation methods and provide constructive feedback.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, guiding students’ personal and character development.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and organization staff.
  • Support in strengthening the established kids and WASH Clubs in all the project locations
  • Support to promote peaceful processes of social norm changes, and social cohesion in the communities.
  • Perform any other related duties as requested.

Essential Criteria

  • Persons must be over the age of 18 years.
  • Minimum qualification, NCE
  • Have experience in community mobilization and volunteering.
  • Be able to communicate in the local dialect and in English.
  • Ability to work with children.
  • Resident in the community
  • Be accountable to the community.
  • Must not be linked to any armed group or forces.
  • Must participate in all the trainings organized to capacities.
  • Capable of working under line management of EiE officer.
  • Committed to UHAI’s child protection policy.
  • Volunteers should be able to communicate in Hausa or Kanuri
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English
  • Commitment to and understanding of UHAI’s aims, values and principles
