EXPRESSION OF INTEREST NO. 2024/003-REOI LOCAL MANUFACTURING OF SO-LNS IN NIGERIA
UNICEF is committed to the prevention of all forms of malnutrition in infants and young children including stunting, wasting, micronutrient deficiencies and overweight. Small quantity Lipid based nutrient supplement (SQ-LNS) is a small supplement for the prevention of under nutrition and improves child survival, growth and development. (SQ-LNS) is reported to have an impact on reducing the rate of stunting, wasting, anemia and child mortality. WHO (20230 estimates 149 million children under 5 to be stunted, 45 million to be wasted and 37 million overweight or obese. In addition, almost half of all deaths among children under 5 years of age is linked to under nutrition. There is need to include and integrate (SQ-LNS) within existing prevention programs. While UNICEF has globally approved supplier of (SQ-LNS), however having local producers) of (SQ-LNS) would better fulfill the UNICEF core principles in term of localization and sustainability.
Therefore, UNICEF is planning to further engage with local manufacturers who are interested in becoming suppliers of this strategic product to UNICEF locally in Nigeria as well as regionally and globally.
