KNCV Nigeria
KNCV Nigeria is firmly equipped with technical and administrative capacity in strengthening TB, TB/HIV, and COVID-19 Vaccination service delivery platforms, supporting health system strengthening and research in Nigeria. With 150 program staff in 14 state offices and over 2,000 ad hoc health care workers across 248 facilities, KNCN Nigeria has remained a major player in TB Program implementation in Nigeria. We employ a systems approach, using data-driven quality improvement methods to identify and address gaps in TB, TB/HIV diagnostic and management services. Our work focuses on collaborative planning, design, and implementation, engaging the private sector, strengthening service delivery platforms, and community structures, and improving the quality of services available in Nigeria.
Since 2000, KNCV TB Foundation has implemented successive 5-year circles of USAID-funded flagship TB projects (TBCTA, TB CAP, TB CARE 1, Challenge TB). It is presently implementing the USAID TB LON 1 & 2 projects across 14 states (Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, Rivers, Bauchi, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, Taraba, Anambra, Delta, and Imo) in Nigeria. Working with TB Program and Partners, KNCV Nigeria has under the TB LON project piloted and scaled up key innovations in the TB program in Nigeria; the use of portable digital x-ray with AI for active TB case finding, TB LAMP platforms to strengthen TB diagnostic networks, the use stool for TB diagnosis in children and digital health tools such as the EWORS, CommCare App, XMAP, Virtual based CBT, and the USSD SMS technology to optimize active TB case finding in facilities and community settings with outstanding results.
KNCV Nigeria implements other key projects such as the STOP TB Partnership/UNOPS funded DATS project, TB diagnostic Connectivity Project, USAID Cluster 6 “HALG_ACE Consortium”, The USAID funded COVID-19 Vaccination Acceleration Project, The Global PPM project, The USAID funded new tools project and The Jensen Pediatrics TB project.
The Global Fund Grant Cycle 7 (GC7) Grant
In collaboration with the Institute of Human Virology (IHVN) as the Principal Recipient (PR), KNCV is implementing the Global Fund Grant Cycle 7 (GC7) grant which seeks to improve the Public-Private Mix (PPM) contribution to TB control, Community active TB case finding and referral for management, as well as provision of HIV Testing Services (HTS) to pregnant women through community engagements and early infant diagnosis for HIV in the 7 states of Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi Cross River, Kaduna, Kano and Katsina.
GC7 approach will include 1) People-Centered Services where clients are valued as equal partners who are served by integrated and client-centric differentiated service delivery (DSD) approaches; 2) Community Engagement that targets.
- Persons with HIV and TB
- TB/HIV co-infection
- Multi-drug resistant TB (MDR TB).
The goals of the grant are:
- To accelerate efforts at ending the TB epidemic in Nigeria by ensuring access to comprehensive and high-quality patient-centered and community-owned TB (TB. TB/HIV and DR-TB) services for all Nigerians by 2026.
- To increase the PPM contribution to the National TB case notification from 24% in 2022 to 30% in 2026 and to increase community contribution to the National TB case notification from 43% in 2022 to 45% in 2026.
- To achieve 100% HIV screening among pregnant and breastfeeding women in unconventional settings (TBAs and Home settings) in Nigeria by 2026.
To this end, KNCV Nigeria will contract Seven (7) lead community-based organizations (CBOs) that will work in the supported states to carry out community Active TB case finding, Management of DRTB patients, Provision of HIV Testing Services to pregnant women in the community, as well as support sample transportation for Early Infant Diagnosis of HIV. The duration of this engagement will be between January 2024 to December 2026 (3 years). The engaged CBOs will work closely with the KNCV Nigeria Global Fund team at the state level to collaborate with key stakeholders in exploring innovative ways of ensuring that underserved populations have access to high-quality TB/HIV services within the state.
Selection Criteria for Community-Based Organizations
- CBOs must be based in the state of implementation and have a strong community grassroots presence.
- Must be registered under the national laws and regulations of Nigeria, including registration with the Cooperate Affairs Commission (CAC), and have the legal standing and authority to engage in community activities.
- Must have been registered with the National Coordinating body of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) located in states (TB NETWORK).
- Must have a good track record and/or experience working in TB/HIV-related community-based activities in the state.
- Must have a good track record and/or experience in achieving programmatic results for TB and HIV service provision.
- Possess sufficient management, operational, and human resources capacity to implement the proposed project in a timely and fast-paced manner.
- Must have a physical office in the state the CBO is applying for.
- Ability to document and report on project performance in routine and structured reporting system.
- Commitment to achieving donor-set targets in a timely manner and with fidelity.
- Ability to work with individuals in ways that are sensitive to Gender, Disability and Social Inclusion.
- Have an organized workforce.
- A minimum of 3 years of active experience, undertaking similar work in the state the CBO is applying for.
