PROJECT BASELINE STUDIES

Iko ESai – Community Forest Management and Livelihoods Improvement in the Buffer Region of Cross River National Park, Nigeria

The projects aims to promote community based conservation and sustainable resource use systems to improve livelihoods and conserve highly bio diverse forests by:
• Significantly reducing over-explanation of forests through strengthening traditional community-based mechanisms and forest conservation and use laws
• Halting agricultural expansion into pristine forest areas and promoting improved sustainable agricultural practices that increase incomes.
• Building the capacity of NTFP sector actors so that’s their incomes are significantly improved; and
• Raising awareness of participatory community-based forest management among the public and decision makers.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor and evaluate the intended project results in line with comprehensive M & E concept, schedule and plan as well as being able to:
• Work with NABU and NCF to identify appropriate sites and target groups for implementation of the monitoring and evaluation system.
• Develop appropriate monitoring methods based on the project proposal and the attached table (Monitoring and Evaluation Plan)
• Be able to implement the M & E concept along a specific M&E schedule throughout the project duration.
• Develop a comprehensive baseline framework, protocols and elements to collect all data during the project period.
• Develop and share with NABU and NCF a monitoring and evaluation schedule for the whole project period and other related materials, such as surveys, to be conducted at a later phase (e.g before workshops)
• Have all required baseline data available before the project activities start.
• Produce a final monitoring project baseline report for NABU and NCF
• To generate and produce measurable, verifiable and significant data for the project.
